What Is a Pipe Shoe?

A pipe shoe is a structural support component utilized in piping systems to provide stability and guidance where pipes intersect with metal framing systems or other structural elements. Consisting of a base plate, pipe clamp, and securing mechanisms like U-bolts or straps, its primary function is to support and secure the pipe, preventing movement or slippage. In some designs, a guide component may aid in directing pipe movement, particularly in cases of thermal expansion or contraction. Pipe shoes play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and safety of piping systems, ensuring efficient operation and minimizing the risk of leaks or damage.

What Is a Goal Post Structural Support?

A goal post structural support is a type of framework commonly used to provide overhead support for structures like industrial piping systems. Resembling the shape of a goal post in sports, this support system typically consists of two vertical columns connected by a horizontal beam at the top. The vertical columns are anchored to the ground or other supporting structures, while the horizontal beam provides a stable platform for bearing the weight of the overhead structure. Goal post supports are valued for their simplicity, strength, and versatility, making them a popular choice in various construction applications.

Step by Step Instructions for Sikla Pipe Shoe Inside Goal Post Support

The above video shows a step by step tutorial on how to create a “goal post” support, for anchoring pipe, and connect it to your primary structural steel using Sikla Framo modular steel framing members. Belwo, we’ll also walk you through the steps show in the video.

  1. Begin by placing a Silkla beam bracket perpendicular to the bottom of the structural steel i-beam and fasten it to the beam using 4 beam clips.
  2. Mount a second beam bracket to the i-beam with an appropriate amount of distance between to accommodate your crossbar.
  3. To create the cross bar, slide the end support inside the cantilever bracket, so there are mounting plates on both ends of the cross bar, and fasten them together using self forming screws.
  4. Slide the crossbar in place horizontally between the two vertical beam brackets and secure both ends of the crossbar to the beam brackets with self forming screws.
  5. We are now ready to attach our anchored pipe shoe to the center of the cross bar. To attach the pipe shoe, first place the guiding bracket on the crossbar and attach it using 4 self forming screws. Then slide the pipe shoe into the guiding bracket and fasten it securely. Once secured, you may fasten the pipe in place with the top strap of the pipe mount.
  6. You have now successfully assembled your Sikla Framo “goal post” support and anchored your pipe to it!
